Program Description
IV Foundations is a 21-hour course, completed over 2 weeks. This advanced course was developed for healthcare professionals with over 20 hours of prior phlebotomy experience, expanding skills and enhancing patient care. This comprehensive course provides in-depth training in intravenous therapy techniques and procedures. With our IV Foundations course, students acquire the expertise needed to confidently perform the placement of IV catheters. Students will place IV’s on classmates and volunteers. All students are required to participate as a patient and a phlebotomist with their classmates. The final exam will consist of a written test and IV skills tests. |
Upon program completion, students will be able to:
Learn the theory behind standards for the safe placement of IVs.
Identify IV equipment.
Identify IV risk factors, IV complications, and explain the basics of human anatomy related to IV placement.
Correctly and safely perform an IV insertion on a patient by properly using any equipment and supplies necessary while identifying and adjusting for any challenges associated with the placement.
Certificates and Licensure
Students can receive a transcript of credit earned upon completion of the course.
