Program Description
MTECH offers a combined 16-hour course that prepares participants for certification in two of Utah’s three Vehicle Safety Inspector categories: Passenger Vehicles/Light Trucks and Motorcycles. In Utah, the three Vehicle Safety Inspector certifications are Passenger Vehicles/Light Trucks, Motorcycles, and Heavy Trucks/Trailers/Buses.
The MTECH 16-hour course provides training exclusively for the Passenger Vehicles/Light Trucks and Motorcycles certifications. Training for the Heavy Trucks/Trailers/Buses certification is not offered.
To successfully complete the program, participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% on both the final examination and the performance checklist. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate and will be eligible to apply for Vehicle Inspection Certification through the Utah Department of Public Safety.
Upon program completion, students will be able to:
Identify and interpret the Utah Department of Public Safety regulations and inspection criteria applicable to passenger vehicles, light trucks, and motorcycles.
Demonstrate proper procedures and techniques for conducting comprehensive safety inspections on passenger vehicles, light trucks, and motorcycles in accordance with state requirements.
Evaluate vehicle components and systems to determine compliance with safety standards and accurately complete inspection documentation and checklists with at least 80% proficiency.
