Program Description

MTECH offers a combined 16-hour course that prepares participants for certification in two of Utah’s three Vehicle Safety Inspector categories: Passenger Vehicles/Light Trucks and Motorcycles. In Utah, the three Vehicle Safety Inspector certifications are Passenger Vehicles/Light Trucks, Motorcycles, and Heavy Trucks/Trailers/Buses.

The MTECH 16-hour course provides training exclusively for the Passenger Vehicles/Light Trucks and Motorcycles certifications. Training for the Heavy Trucks/Trailers/Buses certification is not offered.

To successfully complete the program, participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% on both the final examination and the performance checklist. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate and will be eligible to apply for Vehicle Inspection Certification through the Utah Department of Public Safety.

Upon program completion, students will be able to:

  • Identify and interpret the Utah Department of Public Safety regulations and inspection criteria applicable to passenger vehicles, light trucks, and motorcycles.

  • Demonstrate proper procedures and techniques for conducting comprehensive safety inspections on passenger vehicles, light trucks, and motorcycles in accordance with state requirements.

  • Evaluate vehicle components and systems to determine compliance with safety standards and accurately complete inspection documentation and checklists with at least 80% proficiency.
